The brave and courageous Amelia Wishart returns for another festive children's adventure, the final part of Matt Haig's imaginative trilogy with the wonderful illustrations of Chris Mould. Then there is the resentful Easter Bunny and the evil rabbits. Amelia has had a traumatic life, and once again life is upside down and turbulent. She and her cohorts rise to the challenge in their exciting battle to save Christmas from the forces of evil. This is an emotionally engaging, captivating festive read for children with everything required to entertain. It is action packed, with quirky characters, good and evil rabbits and the stupendous Amelia. A magical, warmhearted, fun, witty and humorous book! Matt Haig did it again! Another fabulous Christmas story from him! I absolutely loved Father Christmas And Me!
Amelia Wishart lives now in Elfhelm with Father Christmas and Mary, also known as Mother Christmas. You'd think life should be perfect for Amelia but it so not. Problem is Amelia is just too... human. Fitting in in the elves world is harder than you'd think. And being human she's also full of self doubt and constantly questions her place in that magical place. She just can't believe that she belongs.
It's not just Amelia who's troubled. Father Vodol is not a happy elf and he really really doesn't like Father Christmas and humans in general. He enlists help of Easter Bunny and his rabbit army to try and overthrow Father Christmas and take charge of Elfhelm again.
Father Christmas And Me is a gorgeous story conveying the true meaning of Christmas. It's not about the presents; its true magic lies in kindness of heart and generosity of spirit.
Beautifully written, fast paced with great plot and stunning illustrations Father Christmas And Me is not to be missed. And if you haven't read previous Christmas stories from Matt Haig please do. They're just brilliant. Magical, heartfelt, truly Christmassy.

Super simpatica aceasta serie. Amelia ajunge in Elfhelm si impreuna cu Mary si Mos Craciun incearca sa evite buclucurile, dar nu reuseste foarte bine. Elfii imi sunt dragi, cel.mai mult Spiridusa Adevarului.

A little over a year ago, I read “A Boy Called Christmas,” and earlier this month I read the second book in this series, “The Girl Who Saved Christmas” which was equally as charming, as fun, and as magical as his first. I knew I would love the third, and so I began “Father Christmas and Me” and it was no surprise to me that it was as charming as the first two.
This begins where the second book leaves off, and Amelia Wishart is now living with her new adoptive parents, Father Christmas and Mary Christmas in Elfhelm.
”But Elfhelm is an ordinary town in lots of ways. A small town. An oversized village, really. And there are normal things there, like shops and houses and a town hall. There are streets and trees and even a bank.
“But the people who live there are very different to me. And very different to you too.
“They aren’t even people. Not human people anyway.
“They are special. They are magic.
“They are, well…
“They are elves. But the thing is, if you are surrounded by elves, it isn’t the elves that are the weird, unusual creatures.
“No.
“It’s you.”

I loved the artwork in this book, all of the books in this series, I loved the story, the frequent nod to the magical elements that had a quirky twist on those normal completely non-magical things in life.

”There was a reindeer clock in the living room, which was like a cuckoo clock but instead of a cuckoo popping out it was a reindeer. Oh, and it didn’t tell ordinary human time with boring things like ‘six o’clock’ and ‘twenty past nine’. It told elf time, and elf hours were called things like Very Early Indeed and Way Past Bedtime.”

I loved that this was written for children, to be read to a child would make it even more magical all the way around, and it is silly enough, more than charming enough and yet entertain even those old enough to have children of their own. Magical!

The artist responsible for the wonderful illustrations is Chris Mould, and they really are beautifully matched to this wonderful holiday story.

Father Christmas and Me, is the third book in a series of Christmas books by Matt Haig, with ‘A Boy Called Christmas’ and ‘The Girl who Saved Christmas’ being the first two.

In this story we get to meet Amelia Wishart, a young girl who feels that she doesn’t belong anywhere after the death of her mother and a father nowhere to be seen. With no-one to look after her, Amelia ended up at Mr. Jeremiah Creeper’s Workhouse. That was until Father Christmas took her, and Mary, who worked in the kitchen, to his home in Elfhelm, a magical place that is not visible to humans.

Elfhelm is a magical town, filled with laughter and joy. The villagers, mainly elves and pixies, are mostly happy little people, until Father Vodol, a very bad elf starts causing trouble (again). This time he is trying to get rid of Father Christmas, Mary and Amelia, and will do everything and anything he can to succeed and banish the humans from Elfhelm, along with ruining Christmas for everyone too.

Will Father Vodol succeed, or will Amelia be able to prove that Vodol is spreading fake news, show the folk of Elfhelm just how bad an elf he really is and save Christmas?

I didn’t realise when I read Father Christmas and Me that it was the final part in a trilogy, which does mean that although starting at the beginning is best, it can be read as a standalone too.

The book is filled with magic and goodness, but also a reminder of how bad some people can be, and how fake news can travel fast, causing lots of people pain and heartache.

Amelia is a lovely little girl who through no fault of her own, has had an awful childhood. That was until Father Christmas saved her. She isn’t completely happy in Elfhelm and still doesn’t feel like she fits in perfectly, as she has to attend elf school, where she is taller than all the other children, and the adults too. Plus Elf school work isn’t like human school work, so she doesn’t feel as clever as all her elf classmates.

What I like about Matt Haig’s books is how he can make you become emotionally attached to his characters, whilst entertaining you with his superb stories. He sprinkles a little bit of magic onto each page and has children excited to read and use their imaginations, in an age where it often feels like technology has taken over and books are being left behind.

This is an exciting, adventurous book that is a little bit zany, but is a whole lot of fun. It includes lots of amusing illustrations by Chris Mould. Plus you also get to discover why you receive chocolate eggs at Easter too!

O să-mi fie tare dor de Elfhelm! Mă simt de parcă am locuit acolo, iar acum o să plec! Dintre toate locurile literare în care mi-am petrecut Crăciunul, acesta este cel mai frumos. Aici există niște caramele care se numesc Speranța și au exact gustul pe care te aștepți să îl aibă. În cadrul ceremoniei de nuntă, ți se cere să nu râzi. Când partenerii nu se mai pot abține și râd împreună fără să le pese de nimic altceva, atunci sunt considerați căsătoriți. Doi cu doi nu fac patru, ci zăpadă. Există spiriduși care vor să fie răsplătiți cu noi și interesante cuvinte de fiecare dată, iar ceilalți sunt plătiți cu monede de ciocolată, dând un alt sens expresiei ,,am mâncat toți banii". Partea mea preferată din toată seria este cea legată de Spiridușa Adevărului. Dacă aș cunoaște pe cineva ca ea, ar fi cea mai bună prietenă a mea și mi-aș dori mult să mă considere la fel. Έτσι για να μπω λίγο στο κλίμα των Χριστουγέννων και να νιώσω λίγο παιδί, αποφάσισα να διαβάσω το τελευταίο βιβλίο της τριλογίας του Matt Haig. Έκανα πολύ καλά! Περιπέτεια, αγωνία, συγκίνηση. Η Αμέλια ζει με τον Πατέρα Χριστούγεννα σε μια πόλη που δεν υπάρχει στον χάρτη. Είναι η πόλη των ξωτικών, εκεί που συμβαίνουν τα πάντα και όπου η μαγεία είναι η πραγματικότητά τους.
Ο Haig δεν είναι τυχαίος συγγραφέας. Δεν γράφει βιβλία που αρέσουν μόνο στα παιδιά αλλά και στους μεγάλους. Όπως λέει ο ίδιος: «Το βιβλίο είναι ένα δέντρο που ονειρεύεται».

Η τριλογία είναι ιδανική για παιδιά 8+. Το πρώτο είναι κορυφαίο βιβλίο! Δεν χρειάζεται να έχεις διαβάσει τα προηγούμενα για να διαβάσεις το συγκεκριμένο.

Ich liebe diese Reihe und Matt Haig als Autor. Er hat was zu sagen und zu erzählen, es lohnt sich, ihm zuzuhören.

Fie că scrie ficțiune sau non-ficțiune, Matt Haig este unul din autorii mei preferați. Mă torturează acum cu „Câteva motive ca să iubești viața”, dar îl iert. Încă nu m-a învățat cum să opresc timpul, iar gândurile lui despre „umanitate” sunt greu de citit, dureros de adevărate și de răvășitoare.

În ultimii trei ani am așteptat cu nerăbdare ziua de Crăciun pentru a citi un volum din seria Christmas, destinată copiilor. Ha. Ha. Ha. Sau poate ar trebui să zic HO HO HO? E o serie dedicată copiilor ascunși în haine de adulți: umor negru, glume și ironii ascunse, diferențe sociale și rasiale, nedreptăți și speranță.

Cum să nu o iubești pe Spiridușa Adevărului, constrânsă din naștere să spună tot ce gândește, crede și știe? Cum să nu prinzi drag de Amelia și de Căpitanul Funinge, de bănuții de ciocolată, Moș Topo, Noosh și Micul Mim? Cum să nu te gândești la Rise of the Guardians când Iepurașul de Paște nu se înțelege cu Moș Crăciun?

Crăciunul din 2019 o să fie trist. Nu ne mai întoarcem în Elfhelm.

O poveste despre regăsirea de sine, de aflare a drumului în viața, o carte despre a fi "diferit", despre credință, magie, familie, prieteni, adevăr ,bunătate....și nu în ultimul rând despre a face ceea ce te face fericit ,împlinit în viață.

Al treilea volum al seriei scrise de Matt Haig, un volum narat din prisma Ameliei, fata care a făcut posibilă existența "Primului Crăciun ", datorită credinței sale, Totodată este si fata care a reușit să salveze și al treilea Craciun și să se mute temporar în Nordul Îndepărtat, în Elfhelm, avându-i pe Moș Crăciun și Mary drept părinți adoptivi.

Vă întrebați de ce temporar, nu? O să înțelegeți la sfârșit...și probabil credeați că toate lucrurile sunt perfecte în acest volum, nimic nu avea să pericliteze liniștea Elfhelmului.

✍️"Dar Elfhelm este un sat mai mare..se găsesc lucruri obișnuite, cum ar fi magazine, case, o primarie, străzi, copaci...însă oamenii care locuiesc aici sunt foarte diferiți (de mine, de voi). Nici măcar nu sunt oameni, adică nu sunt ființe omenești..ei sunt speciali, sunt magici...sunt ELFI. Problema e că, atunci când ești înconjurat de elfi, nu elfi sunt creaturile ciudate, neobișnuite...nu, Oamenii sunt.

La școală nu excela, cred că niciun om nu ar fi reușit, mai ales la întrebarea profesorului Pi cât fac doi plus doi, răspunsul nu era patru, ci zăpadă sau puf de pană; la geografie (profesorul Columbus) deținea un glob ce era practic împărțit în "Lumea Omenească" și Locurile Magice ( Teritoriul Elfilor, Valea Trolilor, Câmpurile de gheață, Tărâmul Hulder și Ținutul Movilelor și al Vizuinilor etc... și restul materiilor îi creau inconveniente.

Singura "materie " la care se descurca era cea a "condusului de sănii ", dar totodată a fost și materia care a reușit să-i ofere lui Moș Vodol șansa de răzbunare. Apariția noului ziar" Adevărul Zilei", condus de Moș Vodol, publicarea articolelor negative despre accidentul Ameliei si Moș Crăciun, o determină să caute anumite știri, fiind însoțită de Spiridușa Adevărului, singura care putea să o susțină când l-ar fi combătut pe Mos Vodol.

✍️"....dacă Moș Crăciun o să fie îngrijorat, îngrijorările sunt opusul speranței, ele fură speranța...și dacă nu mai e speranță, atunci n-o să mai fie Crăciun." -așa că alege să nu-i povestească despre găurile din pământ.

Moș Vodol reușește cu ajutorul Iepurilor de Paști, să-i însceneze lui Moș Crăciun un jaf; Amelia este constrânsă să-l denunțe pe Mos Crăciun, ajung să fie închiși și la un pas de moarte, dar drimwickeria lui Mary este cea care îi salvează și toți elfii află planul diabolic al lui Moș Vodol.

Acest volum are și un bonus, să-l numesc așa, deoarece aflăm cum a luat naștere tradiția cu "Iepurașul de Paște " și totul datorită ideii Ameliei

Știți cum? S-a întors în Londra și a deschis un orfelinat "Căminul Magic pentru Fete și Băieți "

Amelia s-a mutat, alături de Mary, în Finlanda, dincolo de zona cunoscută ca Laponia, în Nordul Îndepărtat- în orașul Elfhelm, oraș magic invizibil pentru oameni și neexistent pe hărți, deoarece majoritatea oamenilor nu-l pot vedea, iar pentru a-l putea vedea, oamenii trebuiau să creadă în magie. Și ai fi crezut că toate lucrurile sunt în regulă acum, numai că în acest sat locuiesc elfi și doi oameni speciali și magici (atinși de drimwick-Moș Crăciun și Mary), dar lucrurioe nu sunt ce părea a fi...Amelia nu a reușit să se integreze și nu se simte deloc confortabil.

Mi-a plăcut cum a fost conturată ideea de "Iepure de Paște"

Iar Amelia a fost într-adevăr genul de personaj luptător, ambițios.

The third book in the Father Christmas trilogy by Matt Haig is told by eleven-year-old Amelia Wishart. She and Mary Winter have come to live in Elfhelm after Amelia helped saved Christmas last year.

But not all the elves are happy about having more humans in their midst and Father Vodol is up to his old tricks once again. He is publishing his own newspaper, The Daily Truth, which he is using to spread lies. He wants to about build a wall from sea to sea to keep humans out and plans to LOCK HER UP! (No, not Hilary--Amelia Wishart!!) Who will he enlist to help him in his mad plot?? You are in for a surprise!!

Lots of adventure and fun in this last installment of the trilogy which geared to middle-school-aged children button for all, with super illustrations once again by Chris Mould. Amelia is brave and resourceful but drimwickery saves the day!

După ce am cunoscut-o pe Amelia în “Fetița care a salvat Crăciunul”, am aflat la final că ea a plecat să trăiască împreună cu Mary, în casa lui Moș Crăciun din Elfhelm. Mary capătă un nou nume - Mama Crăciun după ce devine soția lui Moș Crăciun. Și dacă toate par bune și frumoase, iar toate problemele par rezolvate, ei bine, o nouă provocare își face apariția.

În scenă apar iepurașii împreună cu conducătorul lor - Iepurașul de Paște. Un nou complot este pus la cale pentru a opri Crăciunul și pentru a scăpa de ființele omenești care își duc traiul printre elfi. Desigur că e happy-end și de data aceasta, căci altfel nu am mai fi ajuns să sărbătorim Crăciunul, iar copiii din lumea întreagă nu ar mai primi cadouri de la Moș Crăciun în fiecare an. Căci le primesc, nu-i așa?!

Cu această cartea am încheiata trilogia “Crăciun” scrisă de Matt Haig. O recomand călduros copiilor, cred că este un dar minunat a fi oferit de Crăciun. Și maturilor iubitori de povești le va fi pe plac. Este o serie care tinde să ne facă mai buni și mai pozitivi. Ne aduce aminte de inocența și dragostea de viață a copiilor.

Al treilea an la rând când citesc de Crăciun o carte despre Crăciun din seria dedicată de Matt Haig acestei sărbători. Și bineînțeles că nu am fost dezamăgit: la fel de amuzantă și de înduioșătoare ca și precedentele două volume, pe care le-am devorat aproape imediat cum au apărut. Bine, cam la o lună după, ca să pot intra cum se cuvine în spiritul Crăciunului.
PS: Spiridușa Adevărului capătă un rol însemnat în această a treia poveste cu și despre Moș Crăciun.

But, she is not really fitting in, and then has an accident that the evil Father Vodol uses to rally the elves to have humans evicted. Amelia tries to fix things, and then decides to go back to the human world, when the book's real hero, Pippin intercedes. There is a little bit of politics involved, with rabbits, which annoyed some readers, but not me. Nonetheless, the first two books were better. Chris Mould's illustrations are fun.

Wunderschöner Abschluss der Weihnachtstrilogie: viel Abenteuer, aber auch viel Herz <3

Das Gute im Herzen anderer zu sehen ist nicht immer einfach: Gerüchte und Lügen verbreiten sich schnell, gerade wenn man sich die Gesellschaft von früher und auch leider immer noch in der heutigen Zeit anschaut: "Die anderen" haben immer mit Vorurteilen zu kämpfen.

Diesem Thema nimmt sich Matt Haig hier in seiner bezaubernden Weihnachtsgeschichte kindgerecht an. Auch wenn der Klappentext etwas falsche Erwartungen schürt, denn auch wenn die Osterhasen tatsächlich etwas planen, kommen sie erst recht spät in Spiel.

Erzählen lässt der Autor die Geschichte von der 12jährigen Amelia, die vor einem Jahr vom Weihnachtsmann aus einem schrecklichen Kinderheim in London befreit wurde. Seither lebt sie mit ihm und der Menschenfrau Mary in Wichtelheim. Einem verzauberten Dorf weit, sehr weit im Hohen Norden, in dem die Wichtel und vielerlei merkwürdige Gesellen hausen.

Amelia aber hat es nicht leicht, denn die Wichtel haben ihre eigenen Regeln und ihre Art zu leben ist nicht für Menschen gemacht. Ihr fällt es sehr schwer, sich anzupassen und fühlt sich oft alleine - denn obwohl natürlich auch der Weihnachtsmann und Mary Menschen sind, haben sie den ganz besonderen Wichtelzauber in sich und gehören somit auch irgendwie in diese magische Welt.
Amelia versucht wirklich alles, um sich bei den Wichteln einzuleben und eine Aufgabe zu finden, mit der sie sich und den Wichteln etwas gutes tun kann; aber jeder Fehlschlag macht sie mutloser und die Hoffnung schwindet. Gerade die Hoffnung aber steht in den Weihnachtsgeschichten von Matt Haig an erster Stelle, denn nur wer diese nicht aufgibt und an Wunder glaubt, wird auch welche erleben!

Die Geschichte hat durchweg ein hohes Tempo und es passieren unentwegt kleine Abenteuer, während man mit Amelie mitfiebert - für Kinder eine große Abwechslung mit vielen Spannungsmomenten, aber auch für Erwachsene eine tolle Geschichte, um wieder an den Sinn von Weihnachten erinnert zu werden.

"... das Leben ist so zart und zerbrechlich wie ein Ei, aber wir sollten es trotzdem genießen - wie Schokolade." S. 227

Es stecken auch wieder eine Menge an Botschaften zwischen den Zeilen, die perfekt in die Geschichte integriert sind und Kindern anschaulich näher gebracht werden. Nicht nur, dass man "Fremde" nicht vorverurteilen sollte, sondern auch, dass zwar Lügen manchmal leichter sind, die Wahrheit jedoch meist einfacher zu verkraften ist, auch wenns einem schwer fällt im ersten Moment. Und vor allem, weil man sich danach auf jeden Fall wohler fühlt.

"Wer mag schon die Wahrheit? Niemand, da hat du´s. [...] Den Lügenelf mag jeder. Er sagt den Leuten immer, was sie hören wollen." S. 99

Auch das geradestehen für etwas, dass man verbockt hat, das schlechte Gewissen, das einen antreibt, es wieder gut zu machen, weil man tief im Inneren ganz genau weiß, dass man etwas falsch gemacht hat. Gleichzeitig aber dass es jedem zusteht auch Fehler zu machen, denn nur daraus kann man lernen.

Zum Schluss hin gibt es noch gefährliche Überraschungen, die Amelia viel Mut kosten und einige dramatische Momente - aber es wäre ja kein Weihnachten, wenn nicht das Gute über das Böse siegt :) Das Ende war sehr berührend und zeigt, dass man die Hoffnung nie aufgeben darf und jeder Einzelne mit einem Lächeln für einen Moment etwas Gutes schenken kann.

Übrigens ist es wieder wunderschön illustriert in schwarz-weiß mit vielen kleinen und auch großen Bildern und der Schriftzug glitzert geheimnisvoll wie Silberstaub.

”Books are trees that dream.”

I finally figured out what bothered me about The Girl Who Saved Christmas.
It’s Amelia’s narrative. I don’t like it; I think I don’t like her.
I LOVED A Boy Called Christmas; it was Magical and a new adventure. But I feel it should have stopped there. While I enjoyed the next book, the plot became a bit repetitive and there where something I didn’t like, but couldn’t put my finger on it until now.
This book being narrated only by Amelia made me realize that she was my problem.

I’m all up for reading and re-reading A Boy Called Christmas, but I think that will be it for me.

Exactly what I needed at this time of the year!

Matt has done it again! I can't even begin to describe how wonderfully the story wrapped up. I am quite sad it's over but I am sure all Matt will write in the future will be amazing as well!

Mi s-a parut ceva mai buna decat vol 2, dar mai slaba decat prima carte din serie.

Oh, how I have loved the three books in this series, culminating in this one. In the first we learn of Father Christmas's origin story, in the second we learn of a girl who helps fight trolls and saves Christmas along with Mother Christmas's origin story. This story focuses on the girl, Amelia Wishart and her awkward relationship with the elves (she's so big! her ears are so round!) and worse. Again we have an attack on Elfhelm, the place at the top of the world where they all live, this time by rabbits and an evil elf trying to turn everyone against Father Christmas. And again, Amelia to the rescue who restores the hope that enables Father Christmas to deliver the goods all over the world on Christmas Eve.

I've listened to all three of these books, all good, but Natasha McEnhone's narration in this book was smashing!

Why I'm reading this: Part of my annual Christmas reading, I really enjoyed books one and two A Boy Called Christmas and The Girl Who Saved Christmas.

Wieder eine zauberhafte Weihnachtsgeschichte von Matt Haig, nicht unbedingt für kleine Kinder geeignet. Wir sind zurück in Wichtelgrund und wieder hat Nikolas, der Weihnachtsmann Probleme, dieses Mal mit dem Osterhasen. Das Buch ist unterhaltsam und durchaus spannend, hat ein paar fiese und recht brutale Stellen und macht auch durchaus Spaß.

Leider ist die Reihe nun abgeschlossen aber ich werde sie sicher irgendwann nochmal lesen ❤

Nice ending to the series, a fun & quick read - but book two is still my favourite

Încerc să nu fiu tristă că povestea s-a terminat și că am fost nevoită să părăsesc Elfhelm. Pentru a face despărțirea mai ușoară, mă consolez cu gândul că, peste ani, voi avea ocazia să-i citesc această poveste viitorului meu copil, iar atunci mă voi întâlni din nou cu personajele pe care am ajuns să le îndrăgesc.

Cu toate că romanul de față încheie oficial seria “Crăciun” de Matt Haig, eu sunt ferm convinsă de faptul că povestea lui Moș Crăciun, a Ameliei, a elfilor și a celorlalte ființe magice continuă dincolo de paginile cărții, în imaginația și în sufletul fiecărui cititor.

Personal, aș vrea să-i mulțumesc autorului pentru că a scris această serie ce mi-a umplut sufletul de căldură și mi-a oferit o lectură perfectă pentru acea perioadă a anului. Tot datorită lui Matt Haig, am avut plăcerea să redescopăr magia Crăciunului și să visez cu ochii deschiși la cele mai palpitante aventuri alături de reni, efli și spiriduși. Cred că, cel mai probabil, îmi voi face o tradiție din a reciti această serie în fiecare an, în preajma sărbătorilor, pentru a nu uita nici o clipă de magia acelor zile.

Dacă credeai că e imposibil ca Matt Haig să mai scrie o poveste la fel de frumoasă ca primele două, ei bine, atunci n-ai înțeles câtă imaginație poate el avea :).
